Inaugural Crossroads Golf Tournament in Memory of Lorna Comeau
Lorna Comeau was a Port Moody and Coquitlam resident for over 40 years. In her time in the Tri-Cities, Lorna worked as an Elementary School Teacher for the Coquitlam School District for over 30 years and built lasting relationships with her colleagues and students that continued long after she retired from teaching in 2005. Lorna’s love for sports, especially golf, was evident throughout her years as an educator and post-retirement.
While her zest for a late afternoon round of golf with friends was well known by those close to her, Lorna’s true passion in life was being with her close friends and her two sons – Cam and Kevin.
In the Spring of 2016, Lorna was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Throughout her year-long fight with cancer, Lorna built stronger connections with those close to her and continued to do what she loved – golfing, having coffee with friends, and having her two boys over for dinner. Her courageous battle was truly inspiring!
Lorna passed away on March 20th, 2017 at Crossroads Hospice in Port Moody. Her time at Crossroads was extremely challenging for her and her family, but thanks to the amazing work done by the nurses and other Crossroads staff, her last couple of months were spent being as comfortable as possible and in the presence of those she loved.
This inaugural Golf Tournament, hosted by Cam, Kevin, and the Crossroads team is a tribute to Lorna for all that she did in the community as an Educator, the relationships she built as a friend and colleague, and the legacy she has left as a mother. It would absolutely be her wish to see other patients and their families benefit immeasurably from the monies raised through this event that will go towards improved care and support for in-patient programs and family-focused initiatives at Hospice and in the community.
